Please schedule an appointment with Quest or LabCorp for your labs. Please fast for 8-10 hours, but drink 2-3 cups of water 1-2 hours prior to labs. Please note baseline labs can take 10 business days (or approximately 2 weeks) for results. Please look in the lab portal for your results and text me when they come in, letting me know where and when you got them.

Baseline labs: Cardiac IQ (NMR lipoprotein analysis, in depth analysis of your cholesterol), TSH with Free T4 and Free T3 (thyroid tests), Ferritin (storage of iron), Iron, TIBC (Total iron binding capacity), Complete metabolic panel (electrolytes, including kidney and liver function tests and sugar among other tests), Complete blood count with differential, Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy (optimal goal 70-100). Hemoglobin A1C (average blood sugar if indicated)

Allergy tests: food and environmental allergies

Sex hormone testing: Free and total testosterone, Estradiol, Progesterone, DHEAS

If you have a regular menses, for the sex hormones please get labs completed close to day 19-21 of your cycle. Day 1 is when you first bleed. Otherwise, if you are menopausal or do not get regular cycles, do labs at your earliest convenience.

Salivary Cortisol test kit (you get from LabCorp or Quest lab): It’s a spit test so spit in the tubes or use the swabs as directed.  No need to fast for this test.  Once you complete the test return the tubes to the lab as directed.

1st tube: 7-8am First thing in the morning before you brush your teeth or drink water or use mouthwash

2nd tube: 11am-12pm (lunch time). Of course, you can eat and drink by this time. Just try not to drink water right before the test

3rd tube: 4pm (midafternoon)

4th tube: Bedtime

1.GI effects profile (gut testing)

2.Nutreval (nutritional testing)

3.One day hormone testing (sex hormone testing via saliva, also checks melatonin levels to evaluate sleep and cortisol to evaluate how you are managing stress).

The test kits are $25 each and will be mailed to you once they are ordered.

The Genova lab processing fee is $425 for each test if not covered. Medicare and Tricare have covered this test as well as some commercial health insurances have covered it partially. Furthermore, patients have used their HSA (health savings accounts) or HRA (health reimbursement accounts) to pay for them.

Please read all the instructions first and then complete the test during a non-holiday time, sending the specimen, soon after its done as instructed.

The Genova specialized tests usually take about 3 weeks for the results to come in once the company receives your labs. Please check your Genova Diagnostics patient portal to see if your results are back.

If you want to find out how you are doing on your supplements and meds continue with them right before taking the tests, otherwise if it’s safe and not dangerous to hold the meds or supplements for 2-3 weeks if possible, and then take the tests to see what your body is doing.
